Angie Nixon vs Ashley Moody: The Caribbean Vote in Florida 2026

“I don't like to see people struggling the way I struggled.” — Angie Nixon

Angie Nixon's Florida Special Election rub gathers momentum in the backstretch.

The upcoming 2026 U.S. Senate special election in Florida has transcended traditional party politics, emerging as a defining moment for hundreds of thousands of Jamaican, Haitian, and Caribbean-American voters calling the Sunshine State home. In a powerful commentary published by political analyst Norris R. McDonald, members of the diaspora are being urged to mobilize, organize, and cast their ballots for Democratic State Representative Angie Nixon.

The Stakes for Florida's Caribbean Diaspora

According to McDonald, Florida is home to a massive Caribbean coalition, including over 300,000 Jamaican-Americans and 530,000 Haitian-Americans. This voting bloc holds significant power in determining the outcome of the special election between Angie Nixon and the incumbent Republican Senator, Ashley Moody.

McDonald frames the race as a broad Pan-African struggle against systematic racism, economic disparities, and the aggressive immigration policies that have deeply impacted immigrant families. He highlights the termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian communities and harsh deportation campaigns as key issues driving voters to the polls in record-shattering early voting turnouts.

Clashing Visions: Healthcare and Economic Policy

The political commentary draws a sharp contrast between the two major candidates regarding healthcare and the economy:

  • Ashley Moody (Incumbent): Criticized for her alignment with fiscal and healthcare measures like the "Big Ugly Bill," which McDonald notes stripped $911 billion from budgets, contributing to maternity clinic closures across Florida and a lower national ranking in healthcare cost efficiency.
  • Angie Nixon (Challenger): Running on a robust progressive platform that features "Medicare for All," aiming to eliminate private deductibles, premiums, and co-pays by shifting the tax contribution toward mega-corporations and billionaires.

Nixon's campaign has gathered significant momentum, earning high-profile endorsements from progressive icons like former President Barack Obama alongside major labor unions.

A Call for Solidarity at the Polls

McDonald closes his analysis with a direct call to action, stating that a victory for Nixon has the potential to flip control of the U.S. Senate and instantly reshape the legislative landscape surrounding immigration enforcement and social safety nets. For the Caribbean-American community, McDonald argues, political destiny and the pursuit of economic justice are explicitly tied to this election's outcome.

Sulfabittas Caribbean Political Analysis, Miami, Florida, October 2029,

The upcoming 2026 U.S. Senate special election in Florida is not just an American political contest; it is a critical battleground for the survival, dignity, and sovereignty of the Caribbean diaspora and Black American people.

This must be seen as a broad Pan-African struggle in which those in the diaspora can take a firm stand against years of racism and economic injustice.

Democratic State Representative Angie Nixon has now emerged as a forceful political leader and U.S. Senate candidate. If she helps to flip the U.S. Senate, it will go a long way towards helping make life better for poor people and the middle class.

For the hundreds of thousands of Jamaicans, Haitians, and other Caribbean Americans who call Florida home, the stakes are very high.

THE EMPIRE TREMBLES: JD VANCE RACIST ATTACK ON NIXON

JD Vance racist attack on Angie Nixon exposes raw fear!

My friends, let us not think that those desperately clinging to power do not also recognize this. The desperation and visceral fear gripping MAGA Republicans --- are what is left of it --- was recently exposed on the campaign trail.  Vice President JD Vance launched a vicious, racist attack that targeted Angie Nixon.

There he was telling a Black lawmaker whose family came across on the Anglo-Saxon slave ships to "get the hell out” of America.

Here we have an entitled White Americans trying to belittle a strong Black woman.

This xenophobic and racist rant is a calculated tactic to distract American voters from the systemic failures of the Trump regime.

This includes the disastrous war on Iran, that led to the closure of the vital Strait of Hormuz oil shipping route. And the shutting out of Venezuelan oil and gas from global markets following the kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

Nixon countered brilliantly to Vance’s racist. She pointed out the people like Vice President JD Vance “are enjoying their comfort in buildings, built by her slave ancestors. “

TRUMP’S ICE DEPORTATION HURT CARIBBEAN FAMILIES

The stakes are very high my friends. The Caribbean diaspora, like many other foreigners, have borne the brunt of Trump’s cold-blooded mass deportation campaign.

Trump's Cruel immigration policy creates mass voter anger and public backlash!

Trump’s aggressive immigration enforcement borders on lawlessness in which immigrants are hunted down, shacked, and imprisoned without any due process of law and basic human rights.

Florida's infamous Alligator Alley was one of the many hellholes where several Jamaicans were sent before deportation.

The cruel, calculated termination of TemporaryProtected Status (TPS) for our Haitian brothers and sisters is a blatant, malicious attempt to fracture the historic bond of Pan-African and Caribbean solidarity.

Even the domestic agricultural sectors and rural white farmers are facing financial ruin as crops rot in the fields.   Immigrant labor enriched America. And it has taken Trump’s irrationality policies to remind his own rich supporters who are now facing bankruptcy of this important fact.

The Caribbean governments who are empowering the U.S. inhumane policy of forced deportation must stop seeking to curry-favor with Donald Trump.

Meanwhile, the stakes of this election ripple far beyond the borders of Broward, Orange, and Miami-Dade counties; they strike at the economic heart of the islands.

And again, Donald Trump’s reckless wars and crazy tariffs have driven U.S. diesel prices to a record-breaking $6.53 per gallon. This has sharply impact the the cost of groceries, utilities, and basic survival across the board and is driving the anger that people have already started to show at the polls with record-shattering early voting.

TRUMP’S ‘BIG UGLY BILL’ DESTROYED HEALTHCARE

Angie Nixon’s opponent is the incumbent Republican Senator Ashley Moody. She has been part of a regime under whose rule Florida has plunged to a dismal 41st in national healthcare costs and general quality of life.

Moody helped Trump pass his "Big Ugly Bill," which stripped $911 billion from the budget. She supported a budget that funded imperialist wars; fund tax cuts for the billionaires while hurting millions of vulnerable souls who lost vital healthcare programs.

The human cost has been staggering. Over 1,100 counties across the United States have closed maternity hospitals and clinics. In many communities Black pregnant and nursing mothers have to travel miles for basic maternity care.

In Florida alone, 13 counties completely lack maternity clinics. This is part of the general ‘For-Profit Healthcare system’ controlled by billionaires, that have emerged under Trump.

In contrast, Angie Nixon’s offers a "Medicare for All" platform that treats healthcare as a fundamental human right. In her healthcare plan she said that private premiums, deductibles, and co-pays ought to be eliminated. Let mega-corporations and billionaires finally pay taxes and contribute fairly to America.

PAN-AFRICAN SOLIDARITY: A CALL TO ACTION

My dear friends, this special election represents an earth-shattering opportunity to elect Angie Nixon who can be a strong voice on issues that matters to our people. Her Afro-Caribbean coalition is drawing strong support from the over 300,000 Jamaicans and 530,000 Haitians in Florida.

Angie Nixon has also been endorsed by progressive icons like Barack Obama and major labour unions.

A definitive victory for Nixon will flip control of the U.S. Senate and instantly defang the right-wing deportation machine.

Angie Nixon senate campaign connects to the rebellious spirit in our people.  In challenging the dominant billionaire class and the Republican enablers.  She has also shown that she is a force for positive changes to American society, especially in the area of having good low-cost healthcare.

This is what our people needed. A strong Black voice seeking justice for the downtrodden.

This Florida Senate Special election, therefore, give a chance to payback Trump and his MAGA Republicans for their callous indifference to human lives.

The Caribbean-American community must rally behind Angie Nixon.

Our community must work hard to make her a U.S. Florida Senator who is willing to fight to uplift our people.

We must organize, mobilize, and march to the polls in support of her candidacy.

The struggle continues. The Caribbean-American community’s destiny is tied to Angie Nixon victory.
